And their descendants
Lewis, the first son of Jacob and Elizabeth was a farmer all of his life. He was born February 20, 1818 in Chanceford, York, Pennsylvania. He lived next door to his younger brother Jesse and they shared in the work of farming their father Jacob's land until Jacob passed. Lewis' farm was located next to Pierceville Run, a Susquehanna River tributary, and across the road from the Rockville Store and Grist Mill.
Lewis married Elizabeth Krebs, his first cousin on December 12, 1848. Elizabeth was the daughter of farmer John Krebs and Magdalene Bortner and was born November 27, 1828 in Codorus, York, Pennsylvania. Their farm was right next to Lewis' parents Jacob and Catherine. Magdalene was Jacob Bortner's sister.
Magdalene's grandfather George F Krebs was a revolutionary soldier who fought under Colonel Swope's Pennsylvania Regiment of the Flying Camp. This company engaged the British at the battle of Long Island in August of 1776 and defended Fort Washington in November of that year. Lewis and Elizabeth raised eight children and lost three of them at an early age. All of their sons became farmers and all of their daughters married farmers.
