8 Richard Bortner was born September 5, 1863 in Codorus. He was an owner of a butcher shop and a restaurant. The butcher shop was given to his son Jonas after his retirement. G. Richard Bortner and son was located in Spring Grove. Richard married Virginia "Jennie" Burns in 1886. She was a daughter of shoemaker John Jacob Burns and Delilah Rohrbach and was born November 15, 1867 in Jefferson. Her younger brother Horace John Burns married Richard Bortner's niece Mabel Cassi Ann Bortner.

1 Jonas Millard Bortner was born August 6, 1886 in Hanover. He continued on in the family business handed down to him from his father. He owned and operated G. Richard Bortner and Son, a butcher shop in Spring Grove. Jonas also served as Sergeant in Butchering Co. 301 at Camp Dix during WWI. He married Esther Ruth Baker on December 28, 1919. She was a daughter of John Baker and Amanda Stambaugh and was born November 30, 1896 in Jackson. Her father John worked at the P. H. Glatfelter paper mill in Spring Grove.
