From the newspaper York Daily March 6. 1886
The article states that there are 13 and in the photo there is thirteen. Jacob and Catherine raised 13. 8 males and 5 females just like the photo. The photo also has them sitting from oldest to youngest, left to right starting in the front row. Everything lines up from person to person in the photo. Elizabeth, Lewis, Jesse, Daniel, Amos, Lucy, Jacob, Charles, Catherine, Matilda, Emanuel, Levi and Julian.
The oldest is 70 and the youngest is 47. Elizabeth (Bortner) Rohrbaugh was 69, and the youngest Julian (Bortner) Fair was 47 when this photograph was taken. Giving more evidence to the fact that this is the picture of Jacob and Catherine's children, are the existence of other photos identifying those siblings.
Elizabeth is already identified in this photo with her husband Peter Rohrbaugh and it matches Elizabeth in the photo above. She is the eldest sibling.

This next picture is a rendering from an unknown source within the family posted courtesy of Cindy Hartman of Lewis Bortner and his wife Elizabeth Krebs and it matches Lewis' placement in that photo.
The next photo is a photo of Catherine Bortner and Jonas Markel Bortner's family. It matches Catherine in her placement of birth as well.
This next photo is of Levi "Miffly" Bortner and his second wife Ellen Smith. It matches Levi.
